Dinner with friends, every dish was outstanding. Easy to hear one another as tables are well separated. Owner is always there and usually serves you. We will be back more often.
MoreSuch a gem! Fantastic food ... Expertly prepared. Perfect to cap a wonderful day. Seven tables ensure each meal receives the attention it deserves.
MoreBest food in Taos owner is amazing and 100% host for all experiences.
Food was delicious, but way overpriced.
Wonderful, creative and delicious!
We arrived for our 6:30 reservations and were promptly seated. The host was gracious and attentive. The menu was informative and had a good number of dishes, no pasta though, but a solid description of the meal. Now for the drawbacks of the experience: while all the dishes were well prepared, seasoned and well presented they were GROSSLY over priced! I live for an elegant dining experience: I bring with me people who are looking to enjoy the meal and each other’s company, but nothing on the menu explains receiving five pieces of bread, a tablespoon of marmalade, two pats of butter and being charged $8.00;Same for the 1/3 of a cup of French Onion Soup. The thing is, Byzantium could be the kind of place that could enjoy repeat customers for a long time; sadly, unless they address their pricing they could easily be nothing more than a one time curiosity for many diners.
MoreWe ate at all the best restaurants in Taos and this was by far our favorite. Interesting space (very few tables), but the food was amazing
MoreI own a competing restaurant in town and Byzantium is one of my favorite restaurants in Taos and serves my absolutely favorite dish. Excellent food, a charming and welcoming host/proprietor, an intimate and relaxed setting in Taos' historical district. The prices are more than reasonable for the experience and Byzantium always has an excellent beer and wine list.
MoreWent to this restaurant for the romantic setting. My date and I got there and asked for a wine list and then we were ignored for a good 30 minutes until we decided to walk out. I'm sure this place is great but I will never go back.
MoreIt was a satisfactory experience
The food was amazing. So delicious and different.
We had dinner here on New Years Eve. It is a nice restaurant with very few tables. The ambiance is warm and inviting. Expect a slow dining experience, the owner basically runs the restaurant himself with the help of one person in the kitchen. We enjoyed the muscles and the halibut. The bread is also delicious and clearly homemade. We also had the french onion soup, but it was SO spicy that I wouldn't really call it "french onion" soup. All in all a good meal, but not exceptional.
MoreGreat food, great presentation of the food. Service was slow, but just have a drink and relax.
MoreIncredible food and service!
The food was incredible. I can't remember the last time I had such a good meal. The restaurant has a great vibe and the service was awesome. We will be eating here everytime we come to Taos!
MoreScott is the best! We eat here every time we are in taos
Excellent food and great service. Best dining experience in Taos
My husband had been out of town and I was picking him up at Taos airport and wanted to find a quaint place with great food for dinner. After researching options found Byzantium and it did not disappoint. The owner Scott took great care to treat his customers special. I decided on the Shrimp & Artichoke Pot Pie which was amazing, really one of the best pot pies I've ever had!! We will for sure be going back in the near future for that dish! My husband had the filet with mashed potatoes and he ate every bite. He said it was really great! Their menu is small but with good choices. It's a winner for sure for us.
MoreWe had dinner here, and the food was wonderful. I had the shrinp and artichoke pot pie. My husband had the halibut. The atmosphere is quaint and intimate, but the space is small so highly recommend reservations.
MoreOutstanding food and service..😀
Arguably the best meal I've had. The food, atmosphere, and presentation were all incredible. This will be a must visit on all of my future visits to Taos. Excellent service.
MoreGiven the reviews we were originally pleased to have an opportunity to eat dinner at this restaurant. As we were individuals and not one family we asked that each person be provided an individual check.. The server presented scraps of paper listing the cost of each of our meals plus a mandatory 22.5% gratuity based upon the meal and the TAX! We were not told in advance that there would be a charge to split the check and have NEVER had a service charge ever for this request. We will not be returning to this restaurant and question if the owner is aware of this unheard of practice.
MoreIf you are looking for fantastic food in an intimate setting -- go here.
Absolute perfect date night spot! Small, cozy atmosphere, so be sure to make reservations. The selection is small, but it’s evidently been perfectly. We split the shrimp and artichoke pot pie and it was fantastic!
MoreReally delicious food! Highly recommended!
Wonderful food!
This is a great little restaurant, run by a chef and one server. Food and service were excellent. Only seven tables, we were fortunate to get in on short notice, highly suggest reservations several days in advance.
MoreGood food prepared a bit differently than the standard modern menu. They used pepper well. Smallish plates, but solid salad and excellent homemade bread. Tiny wine list, but the wine choices were good. The ambiance was a well-done faux North African or smokey Spanish vibe. The tables were spaced widely, which was good. Romantic.
MoreBest food on my Taos trip! Vegetable Curry! It had a beet, onion, habanero reduction over it, Wow! Bread pudding for desert! Thank you!
MoreWe had the halibut and filet mignon. Both were excellent. Cozy, intimate ambiance and warm service, as well. Will definitely be back.
MoreBest meal I've had in Taos for a while.
Delicious and unique !
Always go to this restaurant when we are in Taos...Scott does a great job, elegant but low key...
MoreWe loved dinner here. We had the place almost to ourselves. Plan on being very close if others arrive. We all tried different dishes and liked everyone of them, everything was cooked perfectly! Would go back in a heartbeat; am thinking we should take a weekend trip to Taos just remembering this meal.
MoreGreat! Small intimate dining. Very good quality food and excellent service. I can say no wrong.
MoreBest meal ever
Gastronomic delight for the senses. Lovely atmosphere.
Such an intimate experience-- the owner is the chef and waiter (generally). I have been there a few times now and have not only never had a bad experience, but have always been pleasantly surprised by something. Organic items on the very creative menu, which changes seasonally. A true delight (a few highlights include: smoked ice cream, house-made red cabbage kraut, and Thai kabobs).
MoreWhat a great place! From the moment we walked in we knew we were going to love it. Everything about the place was sooo cool. And, probably the coolest part was Scott the owner/operator/cook/waiter....! Scott went to lengths to ensure our evening out was memorable, without over doing it. And, then the food came...wow!!! Very well plated...If there were pictures in the menu they would have looked exactly like our prepared meals. As I told Scott, probably on more than 1 occasion, it was by far the best meal I have had in a very long time! We will definitely be back again and again.
MoreLove coming here. Very relaxed, cozy environment. Scott is great and pays careful attention to every detail. The food is outstanding, the wine selection carefully chosen and the desserts are a must.
MoreTop notch food, great atmosphere, excellent service.
Good food, good service, nice atmosphere. Very small place, make a reservation.
A delightful place, great food, romantic food, congenial owner/chef
The ambience, the food.. Top notch! I can't wait to go back! The Most ROMANTIC Restaurant in Taos. Hands down.
